Religious Studies Faculty Present at American Academy of Religion Meeting

Several Religious Studies Core Faculty Members and Faculty Affiliates presented research in November 2024 at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion. Read on for some highlights:

  • K.D. Thompson, RS Core Faculty, presented their project “Muslim Women on the Air and in the Workplace: Insights from Ethnographic Work at a Tanzanian Radio Station.”
  • Susan RidgelyRS Core Faculty, participated in a special session on “Rethinking Religious Studies Programs,” where she highlighted the Religious Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s ongoing innovations to better meet student needs that have resulted in increasing enrollments and majors as well as new faculty.
  • Jamal JonesRS Affiliate, participated in a panel on “Critical/Intersectional Hindu Studies: where do we go from here?”
  • Adam SternRS Affiliate, delivered a paper in a session themed on “Toward a Critique of Historicism” and presided over the session “The Theopolitics of Martyrdom”
  • Miki ChaseRS Affiliate, presented the paper “Rethinking Theorization(s) of Jain Ritual from the Domestic Dying Space.
  • Gudrun BuhnemannRS Affiliate participated in a panel on Tantric Studies.
