What is Religious Studies?

The Religious Studies Program is the center of the academic study of religion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our research and teaching use critical methods from the humanities and social sciences to approach religion as a transhistorical and global phenomenon which exists within and beyond religious traditions. Our questions are those that get to the core of what matters, and how it comes to matter, to human lives.
